The Media's Hoppin!Charity Begins At Home
Written by Gwen Edwards, News Channel 12, Connecticut
As a rule, foreclosures are nothing to sing about–particularly if you or a loved one are about to lose a home.
In recent months there has not been a lot of good news about the nation’s housing market. That is because the number of homes in foreclosure continues to surge all across the country and right here in our own backyard.
For example, according to Realtytrac the number of home foreclosures in the Milford-New Haven area jumped 12% in the first half of this year. Many economists still say the housing market will get worse before it gets better.
My first two guests on OUR LIVES this weekend both went through foreclosure and somehow managed to save their own homes. Mutti Lewis of Bridgeport and Bill Kadish of Milford decided to team up to help others keep a roof over their heads. Lewis, a Reggae artist, and Kadish, an accountant and entrepreneur, are the founders of Face The Music Foreclosure Aid, LLC.
The two of them know first hand about the process and the emotions involved in trying to save a home. So far, they have used their expertise to save an eye-popping 99 homes across Connecticut as well as $25 million in principle dollars, plus interest and late fees. Another amazing fact about Lewis and Kadish’s efforts: they’ve all been done without funding from federal, state and local government agencies.
Be sure to watch this weekend to hear more about their remarkable story. As an added treat, Mutti Lewis will perform a song from his new reggae album.
One final note about Face The Music Foreclosure Aid, LLC: the founders are planning a series of concerts across the nation to raise money to save even more homes. These concerts are being fashioned after the Farm Aid concerts that began in the ’80’s to save family farms.
You can get more information about upcoming concerts by going to their website, www.facethemusic-foreclosureaid.com.
